!Note: Civil war record said that he was 5'9'', gray eyes,
hair dark and dark skin. He enlisted on 28 Oct 1861 for 3
years. Assigned to Co. K 65 Reg O.V.I. First sent to Camp
Buckingham was there on 10 Dec 1861. By Mar and Apr of 1862
he had received no pay since 1861. On June 23 1862 he was
discharged from service for disability. The military
service considered him "Absent without leave" from October
3, 1862 until he returned 8 April 1863. He travel with his
Company to Chickamauga Ga. On Sept 19th 1863 sick with
Diarrhoea he was left behind at Lee & Gordon's Mill Georgia.
He was to to report to Bridgeport Ala. Before he was able
to leave Lee & Gordon's Mill he was taken prisoner by the
South. (The Battle of Chickamauga Sep 19-20) He was shipped
to Richmond, Va. Libby Prison. On Oct 15th 1863 he was
admitted to the Military Prison Hospital. He died on Oct
16th 1863 from dirrhoea. Some time later his body was shipped
to Ohio.

BECKFORD, who was born in Licking County, Ohio, March 28, 1831, was a son of James and Catharine (LEVERSON) BECKFORD, and came to this county in 1837. His wife, Mary Jane, is a daughter of Charles and Catharine (FLICKINGER) BENNETT, and was born in Wayne county December 11, 1835. They were married in this county, December 16, 1852, and have had five children: Andrew N., born Feb. 22, 1854, died March 8, 1855; Martha Ann, July 23, 1855; William Alexander, Jan. 26, 1859; Cornelia Jane and Cornelius Jackson (twins), June 12, 1862; the latter died Dec. 6, 1863. Andrew J. Bickford, before his enlistment, had been supervisor one year. His brother-in-law, John J. F. Bennett and himself both sacrificed their lives for their country in the war of the Rebellion. They were members of the Sixty-Fifth Regiment O.V.I. Bennett was wounded at the battle of Chickmauga, and died Jan. 15, 1864. Mr. Beckford was captured in that battle, and carried to Libby Prison, where he died Dec. 2, 1863. His widow resides on the farm. Address, Belmore, Ohio
