LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. — James O. Gilbo, 73, of Route 180, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 1. He had been a patient at University Hospital, Syracuse.
Born Oct. 8, 1936, in Watertown, the son of Roy and Rosella Rushlo Gilbo, he attended Watertown High School.
Mr. Gilbo served in the Air Force and Navy during the Korean War Era and was honorably discharged.
He married Angie Davis Alexander on June 14, 1973.
Mr. Gilbo worked at the New York Airbrake, Morrison Furniture, both in Watertown, and Fort Drum. He also repaired appliances for 12 years. He retired in 1979 due to an injury. He had also been in a serious car accident in 1988.
He attended the Church of the Nazarene, LaFargeville. He was a member of the Klock Smith American Legion Post 1788. Before his injury in 1988, he was an avid bowler, fisherman and gardener. Mr. Gilbo also loved to play cards and his harmonica.
He and his wife were caregivers for Sunmount Developmental Center, Tupper Lake, for 36 years. He loved the Lord and his family.
Surviving besides his wife, are three sons, James Ostrom, Paul Ostrom, both of Waterown and Milton Alexander and his wife, Shiming, N.C.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carrie Alexander, LaFargeville and Valerie and David Ellsworth, Watertown; a sister and her companion, Flora Mullis and George Crist, Watertown; a son-in-law, George Abbey, Remsen; many grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Seven brothers, Harold, Clinton, Gerald, Richard, Clyde, Norman and Fred, two sisters, Vernice Avery and Violot Bedore, a daughter, Selena Abbey and a great granddaughter, Haley Rose Stowe, all died before him.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday, March 5, at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa, with Rev. Timothy Cramer officiating. A calling hour from 2 to 3 p.m. will be held prior to the funeral. Spring burial with military honors will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Theresa.
