Notes for Jacob Snider

Jacob Snider was the son of Harmon Snider and Elizabeth Bowman (Baughmann). He married Jane "Jenny" Milligan on 26 Sep 1805 in Nelson County, Kentucky. They had at least four children; George Washington Snider, William S. Snider, Eliza Mariah Snider Goodwin, and John S. Snider.

Jacob was described in family history as a large man with a volatile and effusive personality. Despite his large size, he was known as an active and agile person who was an exceptionally skillful horse trainer and farmer. He was also known as an excellent mathematician, despite receiving little formal education, often using grains of corn to compute interest on his owed accounts.

He was a good friend and business partner of "Devil Tom" Heady, the two of them running an illegal distillery since a liquor franchise was denied in Spencer County at that time. After partaking a little too vigorously of their own concoctions, he and Devil Tom would rely on each other to pray the other one back to health.

Several people have submitted edits requesting that the middle name "McGee" be added to this memorial. To date, I have found no credible evidence that his middle name was "McGee". If someone submits this in the future I will add it. His grandson, Jacob (son of John S), was often referred to as "McGee Jake", due to the fact he married two of the McGee sisters, Rachel and Sarah, and to distinguish him from the multitude of other "Jacob Sniders" in the area.
