Kunzinger, Edward L., Jr.
Elmira: Age 94, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Ed was born in Brooklyn NY a son of Lucy (Howard) and Edward L. Kunzinger. He is predeceased by his wife of 64 years Grace Kunzinger and son Paul Kunzinger. Ed is survived by his loving family…..children, with their spouses, Ed and Kathy Kunzinger of Austin TX, Fran and Joe Cerio of Elmira, Steve Kunzinger of Syracuse, David Kunzinger and Teresa LaBrie of Norwich NY; daughter-in-law Anne Kunzinger of Appleton ME; grandchildren, Jeremy (Tammy) Kunzinger of Austin TX, Gloria Kunzinger of Austin TX, Morgan Cerio of NYC, Natalie and Amy Kunzinger of Appleton ME, Daniel Kunzinger of Syracuse and Andrew Kunzinger of Rochester; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Amirah, and Autumn Kunzinger of Austin TX; brother Howard Kunzinger with wife Jean; sisters, Joan Litwin and Phyllis Kunzinger; sisters-in-law, Joan Kunzinger and Marie Isoldi with husband Jerry; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is also predeceased by his sister Audrey Burton; brother Fred Kunzinger; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ida Fiore, Nettie Fiore, Matthew Fiore, Tom Litwin and Tom Burton. Ed was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School and attended Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute studying Aeronautical Engineering. When WW II broke out Ed joined the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-17 pilot flying several missions over Europe. After WW II Ed went to work for Eastern Airlines. He worked for 35 years in the engineering department at A&P, moving to Elmira, with his family, when A&P relocated operations to Horseheads from Brooklyn. Ed stayed with A&P until its closing, finishing his career at American LaFrance before retiring. A devout Catholic, Ed was an active communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes since 1965 and was a former president of the board for Our Lady of Lourdes School. Ed was still an aeronautical enthusiast and enjoyed attending air shows. His greatest joy was time spent with his children and grandchildren. Always the father he continued to have great concern for his family's welfare until the day he passed; "ring twice when you get home." Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira on Monday, March 21, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Elmira on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Ed's memory may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd Floor, Bethesda MD 20814. cff.org.
