Notes for Frederick McDonald Peterson

Frederick "Freddie" McDonald Peterson, 91, of Pendleton died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Suttle Care and Retirement in Pendleton. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10 at Olney Cemetery in Pendleton. A celebration of life service will be held at the Pendleton Elks Lodge immediately following the service.

Mr. Peterson was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Pendleton to William and Eva (McDonald) Peterson. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1936, and attended the Eastern Oregon Normal School for one year before transferring to the University of Oregon. He was drafted in to the Army and attached to the First Marine Division during World War II.

He married Edna Mae Britain in 1947 in Walla Walla. After returning home from the service, he began farming the family wheat ranches. He continued to farm until his retirement at the age of 85.

Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife, Edna Peterson; daughter Annette Skinner; sons Carl and Chris Peterson; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Charles "Bud" Peterson and Raley Peterson; and sister Wilma Peterson Temple.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elks Eye Clinic, the Round-Up Hall of Fame or Cystic Fibrosis of Oregon.

Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop is in charge of arrangements.
