Birth: Sep. 27, 1930 Death: Jun. 22, 2002 Evelyn L. Gerkin of Portage, IN, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso, IN. Born on September 27, 1930, in Lawrence County, IN, she was the daughter of Lonnie and Sylvia (Holt) Tincher. She married Lewis Gerkin on August 2, 1947, and he died October 17, 1995.Surviving are one son, Timothy A. "Andy" Gerkin and wife, Becky, of Portage, IN; one daughter, Veronica Sue Simon and husband, Eric, of Dallas, TX; four brothers: Lloyd Tincher and wife, Pat, of Suisun, Ca, Vern Tincher and wife, Linda, of Terre Haute, IN, Calvin Tincher and wife, Mary, of Bedford, IN, and Frank Tincher of Bloomington; one sister, Pat Maxwell and husband, Bill, of Bradenton, FL; and three grandchildren: Meagan Gerkin, Matt Simon, and Becky Simon. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Elizabeth Wright and Janet Mundy.She had been employed in food service by the Portage Schools.Services for Evelyn Gerkin will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27th, at the Chastain Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Williams and Lloyd Tincher officiating. Burial will follow in Mitchell Cemetery.
