Birth: Jul. 23, 1917 Death: Apr. 4, 2003 Ruby M. Gerkin of Paoli, IN, formerly of Mitchell, IN, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County. Born on July 23, 1917, in Orange County, IN, she was the daughter of David I. and Emma (Pittman) McDonald. She married John "J.C." Gerkin on June 10, 1939, and he died March 5, 1995.Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Walton and husband, Morris, of Paoli, IN; one son, Richard Gerkin of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Nancy Marguerite Smith of Bloomington, IN; one brother, Farrell Q. McDonald of Louisville, KY; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Robert Gerkin; three brothers: Donald O. McDonald, Ronald P. McDonald, and Arnold Hugh McDonald; and two sisters, Florine I. McDonald and Carrie L. McDonald.She was a homemaker, a graduate of Orleans High School, and a member of the Church of Christ.Services for Ruby Gerkin will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 7th, at Chastain Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Sokeland officiating. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery.
