Age 40, District 150, Halbert township, Lawrence county, IN, 1880 census.
James was in Company D, 145 Infantry.
Re: James Kirk's death: My info comes from an obit abstract at the Martin Co. Library in Shoals, taken from the Martin County Tribune XXXIV-19, published in Loogootee on Friday, 5 Dec 1913. It reads: "James Kirk died Friday at his home north of town [Huron]. He had been suffering with rheumatism of the heart. Burial took place Saturday afternoon in the Huron Cemetery." [That's all of the info given.] Obviously, he didn't die on 5 Dec 1913, but the Friday before that would have been Nov 28. So, the truth lies somewhere in between, it seems.

1880 census only Lucinda Age 10 and John Age 8 were listed
1910 census Alonoz age 23 and Roy age 41 were both listed as roomers
