Melinda."From The History of Baxter County (Arkansas), 1940 editio n [I've added a few personal notes in square brackets - a f ew names on marriage records are slightly different than li sted here]Burton and Sarah Martin Girkin, natives of Jefferson County , Kentucky, came to this county from Illinois in 1877, an d settled on the W. B. Jordan farm six miles northwest of M ountain Home. Mr. Girkin died in March, 1879, and Mrs. Girk in moved to a homestead on Bruce Creek. In 1894, the family moved to a place they bought from the Suggs heirs on Trim ble Flat, where Mrs. Girkin died February 15, 1901. The fam ily was Methodist and Mr. Girkin was a Mason. Their childre n were: Nare [Nannie] (Mrs. W. S. Perryman); J. H. [Joe], w ho was assessor of the county at one time, and who marrie d Miss Edna Pierce of Marion County; Mattie (Mrs. W. W. Kin g); Mary [Mollie](Mrs W. F. McNeill); Charlie [CC or Charle s Clinton], who married Jennie Kazar [Kizzia] of Izard Coun ty, and made their home in Oklahoma."A descendant names Lloyd Girkin as another descendant and s ays that Burton moved to Arkansas in 1877 and died in Arka nsas in 1879. Lloyd T.
