Son of Laurent Weiss (born Forstheim, France) and Florentine Koebele (born Marmoutier, France).

His gravestone is marked with the date of birth 1851, however, as per his Rohr birth record, and all census records and records left by his children his date of birth was actually 1861. Believe his gravestone to be a result of a misreading of handwritten information on his death certificate or information given to the funeral home.

August Wise had 13 children with wife Stella, 12 of whom reached adulthood. Information and stories left by his children indicate he was an extremely harsh man resulting in his 5 year long divorce from his wife Stella and subsequent estrangement of almost all of his children.

According to his emigration and naturalization records, August came to the United States in 1880, first to North Dakota, before settling in Steilacoom, Washington for 9 years and finally settled in Eld Inlet (Mud Bay) for the remainder of his life.

He was an avid agriculturalist, with connections to the department of agriculture and commerce in Olympia, and held contracts with many major institutions to supply produce. He owned several hundred acres of land in the Mud Bay area as well as the first 5, 10, and 15 cent store on Washington street in Olympia.
