Like her older sister Sarah, she was married to Eli J. Lewis,
the merchant, planter and Postmaster at Arkansas Post. They were parents
of at least two daughters. This is certain because of the dates of the
birth of the childern and the date of the marriage of Polly and Eli on
Jan. 31. 1821. an other date that proves the childern were theirs is the
death of Polly on April 21, 1824. It was recorded that Mr. Lewis was a
cheerful man and a firm believer in the institution of marriage. He also
chose the daughters of prominent men for his wives. After the death of
both daughters of Joseph Stillwell he married Harriet Phillips on May 16,
1832. She was the daughter of Colonel Sylvanus Phillips of Helena for
whom Phillips County was named. This third wife died before Mr. Lewis.
He died Dec. 11, 1833 very suddenly after he had been elected Judge of
the Court.
