Notes for Ronald D Wine

Ronald D. Wine Died: Wednesday, May 27, 2009 Ronald D. Wine passed away May 27 at his home in Lakewood. Ronald was born in Enders, Neb., on Oct. 13, 1924, the 13th child of Reverend David and Lottie Wine. He graduated from Imperial High School. Mr. Wine served as Director of Research and Assistant Director of the Colorado Association of School Boards from 1971-1987. Before that he had served as a school administrator in Grand Junction, as a teacher and principal in Rangely and Platteville high schools, and as superintendent of the reorganized Platteville, Gilcrest, and LaSalle School District. From 1965-1968, Wine served as Chief of Education in Region 2, Vietnam. He returned to Grand Junction as Assistant Superintendent before joining CASB. Ron served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending two years in the Pacific. On Aug. 19, 1948, he was married to Mary Carey, daughter of James and Helen Carey of Kersey, Colorado. Since his retirement, they have enjoyed their family and friends. They have traveled to Ireland, England, France and Italy and enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean and the Mexican Riviera. Just last month, they spent eight days in Costa Rica. Ron was pre-deceased by his parents and eleven brothers and sisters. He is survived by one brother, Marlin, Kansas City, Kan. Ron will be greatly missed by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Terry (Gary) Rowe; and his sons, Michael and Steven (Shawn) Wine. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Clinton Rowe, Fruita, Co; Shauna Rowe Keeler, Gilbert, Ariz.; Melissa Rowe Branscom, Lakewood; Tyler Wine, Nashville, Tenn.; and Maxwell Wine, Lakewood. Five great-grandchildren: Hailey, Gage, and Bodie Rowe, Fruita, and Dylan and Ethan Branscom of Lakewood.
