The funeral for Ella Palmer, 97, of Minnewaukan was held Mon. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan. Interment was in St. Peter Cemetery, Minnewaukan. She died April 15, 1998 at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.
Pastor Leslie Johnson officiated. Wesley Palmer gave the eulogy. Fay Huffman was organist & Pastor Lloyd Norstrom & Kelly Palmer were soloists. Pallbearers were Kelly, Greg, Harold, Jeff & Charlie Palmer & Tim Lally. The Nelson Funeral Home of Minnewaukan was in charge of arrangements.

Ella Palmer was born Aug. 10, 1900 in Glencoe, Minn. to Ed & Mary Hall Hanson. She was raised and attended school in South Viking Township near Maddock. She graduated from Dakota Business College in Fargo. She married Walter Palmer Sept. 9, 1932 in Minnewaukan. They lived near Sheyenne until moving to Minnewaukan in 1938. He died July 29, 1953. She worked in the auditor's office & the treasurer's office in the Benson County Courthouse. She retired as deputy treasurer Oct. 24, 1980. In 1983 she was crowned centennial queen. With the care of Leona Sogge, she continued living in Minnewaukan until 1993, when she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.
Survivors include 3 sons & daughters-in-law, Frank & Doris Palmer of Storrs, Conn., Dr. Wesley & Betty Palmer of Biloxi, Miss. & Douglas & Marilyn Palmer of Great Falls, Mont.; a daughter & son-in-law, Grace and Art Weaver of Kalispell, Mont.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; & 2 great-great-grandchildren; & a sister-in-law, Alice Hanson of Escondido, Calif.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Mayo Palmer in 1944; 6 brothers, Lawrence, Roy, Cornelius, George, Clarence & Edwin Hanson; & a sister, Myrtle Benson & infant twin sisters.
