The death of Herbert W. Billings, age 78, occurred last Tuesday, May 22, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Reed Hermon, after a long illness.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Reed, Mrs. Marjorie Brabaw, Payrites, Mrs. Wesley Paro, Hermon and Mrs. Blance Walrath, DeKalb junction and three sons, Gerald of Fine, Frank of Hermon and Burton on Long Lake.

Mr. Billings was born in Canton April 27, 1873, a son of Luman and Miranda Davis Billings. In December 1893 he married Florence Guyette of Potsdam whose death occurred in 1940. Most of their married life was spent on a farm in Russell near this village.

Funeral services were held at the Reed home Friday afternoon, Rev. George Pillbeam, pastor of the Russell and Hermon Methodist churches, officiating. Burial was made in Hermon cemetery.

Bearers were Roscoe Halstead, Bert Mandigo, Flynn Coffey, Charles Wade, Foster Reed, and Maitland Coffey, former neighbors of the deceased, and all of Hermon.
