Notes for Albert Valley

From the Crookston Daily Times 10/21/1932

Richards and Vally Dead near Benoit

Auto overturns on Herold Station-Mentor Road last evening.

Bodies not found until this morning

Both believed to have died instantly: Both lived near Crookston

Albert Valley, about 55 years old, and Dosithee Ricards, about 50 years old, lifetime residents of this section of Polk County, were killed last night when the automobile in which they were riding overturned on the Harold Station - Mentor road, two miles east of Benoit.

Although the accident is thought to have occurred early last night the bodies were not found until 9 o'clock this morning

Both men apparently died instantly. Both were sill in the front seat, heads down, the overturned car resting squarely upon them. A coroner's verdict had not been returned at 2 p.m. but is is believed the two died either of broken necks or suffercation.

Valley lived two miles south of Harold and Ricard lived four miles north of Benoit. Each is survived by a wife and a large family of children.

There were no indications today as to how the accident occurred, other then that there was no sign of a collision. The road is soft, and tracks left by the car before it was wrecked, indicate the driver unknowingly got to far to the right and the car went into a three-foot ditch, overturning.

Hans Anderson, of Mentor, found the wreck and the bodies about mid-forenoon. Coroner H. E. Nelson, Deputy Sheriff G. O. Stovern and Stenshoel's ambulance were summoned.

Valley and Ricards probably were on their way home from cutting wood; an axe and other tools were in the car. If so the accident must have happened early in the evening. There is little traffic on the road, which accounts for the wreck not being seen earlier. this morning. Motorists could have passed during the night without noticing the wreck in the ditch.

Valley and Ricards are brothers-in-law. Funeral arrangements had not been made this afternoon.
