PETE FREDERICK DEAD; SETTLED IN FARGO IN '63 Is Survived by Seven Children, Three of Them Living in Falls City. ------------------------------------------------- Peter Frederick, 88 years old, died at his home near Twenty first and Wilson street at 6:30 o'clock last night. It was in 1863 that Mr. Frederick came to this county. He arrived in the county by way of a Missouri river packet boat in the old steam boat days. Mr. and Mrs. Frederick landed at Fargo, where they settled and contributed a large part to the history of the once-thriving town on the Missouri. Mr. Frederic, as the surname was then written, was born in Metz, fortified capital of Lorraine, a province of France, on March 25, 1837. In 1854 his parents decided to come to America, and he landed with his parents in New York harbor late that year. He came west to Delphos, Ohio, where relatives lived. On June 30, 1858, Mr. Frederick was married. Mrs. Frederick died seven years ago, after 61 years of happily married life. For several years after landing at Fargo, he bought grain at Fargo, and won a fair-sized fortune. In 1874 he opened a packing house there. In 1878 a big drop in meat prices caused a heavy loss to the packing house, and sounded the death knell for it. Mr. Frederick then moved onto a farm near Arago. By frugal French thrift and economy and good farming methods he soon regained his lost fortune. in 1900 Mr. and Mrs. Frederick decided to retire and moved to Falls City, building a home near 21st and Wilson streets, where Mr. Frederick died last night. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Falls City Journal, Falls City, Nebraska.
