Birth: Feb. 24, 1957 Death: Aug. 14, 2008 MITCHELL — Michael Dean Gerkin, 51, of Mitchell, died Thursday at Bloomington Hospital.He worked at Hall Brothers Trucking Co.Survivors include his wife, Glenda Gerkin; one son, Jason Gerkin of Mitchell; two daughters, Andrea Lake and Amanda Terrell, both of Mitchell; four brothers, Randy Gerkin and Dean Gerkin, both of Mitchell, Billy Gerkin of Bedford, and Jimmy Gerkin of Indianapolis; and three sisters, Annette Berry of Oolitic, Jean Gerkin of Bedford and Tammy Gerkin of Salem.Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Chastain Funeral Home in Bedford. Feb. 24, 1957 — Aug. 14, 2008 Mike D. Gerkin, 51 of Mitchell, passed away at 8:33 p.m. Thursday at Bloomington Hospital. Born Feb. 24, 1957, in Lawrence County, he was the son of Bernard and Helen (Pruett) Gerkin. He married Glenda Kern on May 26, 1995, and she survives. He was employed at Hall Brothers Trucking Company. He enjoyed sprint cars and go-cart racing with his grandsons and friends. Surviving with his wife, Glenda Gerkin of Mitchell, are daughters, Andrea Lake and Amanda Terrell, both of Mitchell; a son, Jason Gerkin of Mitchell; his mother, Helen Gerkin of Bedford; brothers, Randy Gerkin of Mitchell, Billy Gerkin of Bedford, Jimmy Gerkin of Indianapolis and Dean Gerkin of Mitchell; sisters, Annette Berry of Oolitic, Jean Gerkin of Bedford, and Tammy Gerkin of Salem; and grandchildren, Cody Lake, Nikki Gerkin, and Allie Bastin, all of Mitchell. His father preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Memorial Chapel of the Chastain Funeral Home in Mitchell with Frank Ira officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.
