Birth: Oct. 29, 1912 Death: Dec. 10, 2008 BEDFORD — Mary M. Gerkin, 96, of Bedford, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday at StoneBridge Health Campus. Born Oct. 29, 1912, in Martin County, she was the daughter of George and Elsie (Todd) Harp. She married Lester Gerkin
on July 28, 1929, and he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a Pink Lady volunteer with more than 10,000 hours donated to Dunn Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Southland Church of Christ, the Royal Neighbors and the Brightwood Homemakers Club. In addition to her affiliation with the Pink Ladies, she had been a Red Cross volunteer since 1941. Survivors include two daughters: Elsie Mullis and husband Perry and Barbara Fish and husband Donald, all of Bedford; 12 grandchildren: Terry Mullis and wife Georgan, Mike Mullis and wife Leslie, Tim Mullis and wife Pat, David Mullis and wife Libby, Brian Mullis and wife Lynn, Kevin Mullis and wife Wendi, Gary Fish and wife Gail, Pam Colglazier and husband Lee, Phillip Fish and wife Carman, Karen Murnane and husband Jim, Ronald Fish and wife Melissa and Tracey Fish; 33 great-grandchildren, and 33 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Violet Shelton; and six brothers: Ward, Lloyd, Floyd, Marion, Rolland and Paul Harp. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Bud Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
