Obituary: GERKING, Laurice Jeanne (RUNYAN)[FRIES][HASTING]; 83; Lincoln City OR; News Times; 2006-4-14; apoon
Laurice Jeanne Gerking Laurice Jeanne Gerking, 83, of Lincoln City died April 10, 2006. She was born Nov. 10, 1922 in Portland to Edna Elmere (Elmer) Runyan and Wilber Arthur Runyan. Laurice and her family moved to Delake in 1953 and even though she had traveled around much of the western United States, Lincoln City was always home. For a short time around 1960 she owned and ran the Chatter Box Café in Taft, but otherwise was a stay-at-home mom, active in the Taft PTA and volunteering for local elections boards. She and her second husband, Bob "Sparky" Fries, liked to square dance at the community hall in Gleneden Beach and she was also an avid bingo player when she could still drive her own car. She was the younger of two siblings. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth G. Kienholz; husband, George W. Hastings; husband, Robert Stanbrough Fries; and husband, William Campbell Gerking. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Suzanne Compton, of Pahrump, Nev.; sons, David Keith Fries, of Portland, and Daniel Runyan Fries, of Lincoln City; seven grandchildren and two great-grand children. She had attended the First Baptist Church in Oceanlake for many years and became a full member in June 2000. A memorial service will be held at sunrise on May 1 on the Taft dock by Mo's Restaurant in Lincoln City, as per her request. Newport News Times, Newport, OR April 14, 2006
