Notes for Isaac Newton (Newt) Richardson

Note: Dr Richardson came to Oregon in 1851 as a two-year-old baby in a wagon train with his parents. He moved to Umatilla County in the 1870's and became the first "settled" minister of the Wild Horse Congregation in 1876. This 26-year-old bachelor was a dentist, occulist (eye doctor) and osteopathic physician with a growing medical practice. Newt also preached occasionally in Walla Walla (WA) and pendleton (OR). A pretty young Centerville maiden caught his eye as he preached and in 1878 he and 18-year-old florence (Jennie) Gerking, granddaughter of J.R. and Nancy Gerking, were married. Officiating at the ceremony was Amos Buchanon, beloved pioneer circuit riding minister. The Richardson family moved to Pendleton in 1895, where Newt began a ministry with that city's newly founded Christian church. He was 85 when he died at his daughter's home in Tacoma (WA) in 1934. Daughter Mrs. Florence Richardson Cox. Had 2 children.
