Notes for David M Taylor

!Note The Taylors were the first of the family to move from Marion County in 1869 to Umatilla County settling on 160 acres of land. Dave improved this land and built a very substantial log cabin, where they lived for six years. At that time, Dave took up another 160 acres just three miles north and added to this tract from time to time until he had over 300 acres of well improved farmland. In 1889 Dave decided to retire from active farm life and moved into the town of Athena and entered into business. He bought up some grain and operated a chain of warehouses, handling the grain for the Gifford Co., the Collins Co., as well as others. For two years he served as assessor of Umatilla County and his popularity was made manifest in his election as mayor of Athena. He was also deputy sheriff for a number of years. Dave was a Mason and was Deacon in the Christian Church.
