Daisy Arminta (Goodwin) Garard was the daughter of Christopher Columbus Goodwin (1824-1903) and Margaret Jane (Dillinger) Goodwin (1837-1914), natives of Indiana. Daisy was near the youngest of 14 children. Her family lived in Adair and Sullivan County, Missouri while she was growing up.

In the early 1900s, Daisy married Alton Harry Garard of Adair County, Missouri. By 1910 they were living in Hannibal, Marion County, Missouri where Alton was the propriator of a billiard hall. Alton and Daisy had two known children:

Thelma O. Garard 1905-
Hila M. Garard 1907-

By 1918, the Garard family had moved to Park County, Wyoming where Alton was a farmer. In 1920 they lived in Big Horn County, Wyoming, and in 1930 in Sheridan County, Wyoming.
